Is it really possible to build a website in under 30 minutes? Yes, and I will guide you from start to finish in deploying a beautiful SEO optimized website that is going to secure your spot on the web.
Currently, everyone has a online presence with social media. If you want to stand out from the crowd, then you need to up your game. This is where a website comes in.
Websites are inexpensive today and with one, you can share your voice. You have complete control of the content and can use it as a platform to generate sales. Even if you don’t have your own product, you need your own website.
Are you ready to build a website in under 30 minutes?
Hosting / Domain Name
The first thing any website needs is website hosting and a domain name. As far as hosting the choice is easy. BlueHost is the hosting I use and the only one I recommend. It’s very affordable, as low as $3.95 a month.
It also comes with a free domain name which takes care of that as well. Your domain name is your address on the web. It should either reflect you or what type of content you are focused on.
BlueHost also has a one click WordPress installation. Which just goes to make it that much quicker and easier to set up your website.
You get a choice between 3 plans. For now, you should choose the basic plan. It’s the best for getting started, you can always upgrade later as your site grows.
Now’s the time to choose a domain. A great tool for this is KnowEm. This website will tell you not only if the domain is available, but it will also check tons of social media sites for matching usernames.
Great, All that’s left here is choosing add-ons and entering your contact and billing information.
Two things I recommend. Paying for 36 months, you get the best deal this way and if you decide to go back to the cubicle life you have a 30-day money back guarantee. The second thing I recommend is purchasing the SiteLock Security. This will help protect your site from spam and malware.
Awesome, we’re all finished here. The next thing we have to do is install WordPress.
You might be asking why you should choose WordPress over other content management systems. Simply, because WordPress is the best content management system on the market. It can be used for anything from a personal website to a professional website. Some universities even use WordPress as their platform.
It has tons of themes that will allow your website to stand out. Plus all the plugins out there for anything from drag and drop editors to search engine optimization. Every internet entrepreneur uses WordPress, you should too. The best part is a lot of these are free.
Now that I handled the why let’s dive into the ‘technical’ part (don’t worry BlueHost makes this easy).
You will receive a confirmation email from Bluehost. This will confirm that your site has been created and configured. It will also prompt you to create your administrator password(keep this secure). You now have access to your control panel.
Now it’s time to install WordPress. BlueHost makes this extremely easy. You may get a popup to install WordPress. Otherwise, scroll down to the website tab and click on ‘Install WordPress’.
You will get an email with your login information when the install has completed
Congratulations, you have a functioning website!
Just because its functioning doesn’t mean it’s good. The next steps we will take will guarantee you have a great website.
To change the look and feel of your website you’re going to need to change the theme. When it comes to themes you have two choices: free themes and paid themes.
The process to install a free theme is pretty simple. On the left-hand navigation bar of your WordPress admin screen select ‘Appearance’, then select ‘Add New’ at the top of the screen. You can now browse for a theme that suits your website’s direction.
The benefit of free themes is, well, they’re free. That’s about it. They might look better than the default theme, but let’s face it that’s not saying much. They tend to be slow, laggy and don’t always look great on tablets or mobile devices. Since mobile friendly websites are a necessity these days, you can see the issue here.
If you want to have a great website you need to have a paid theme.
The best themes out there are built upon the Genesis Framework. That’s what I use here on Ready Set Income. It offers a solid foundation that will operate smoothly and cleanly on any device. It provides super fast page loading as well as a search engine optimized environment. Meaning that Google will promote your site for you!
To get the best start possible I used the Genesis Framework, I recommend you do too.
The choice is yours, but if you want to get the best start possible Genesis is the way to go.
Technically you can go out now and start blogging. However, in order to maximize your website’s effectiveness, I’ve got some extras in store for you.
There are tons of plugins out there. I’m going to list a few for you that I have found useful.
- Limit Login Attempts: This will help secure your site from anyone trying to login that isn’t you.
- Yoast SEO: This will help guide you on creating pages and posts that conform to Google’s standards. That way your site gets seen more!
- WP Super Cache: Genesis is fast, but it can be even faster with this plugin. Users will love it.
- P3 Profiler: Installing plugins can slow down your site. While the ones I’ve listed don’t affect load time very much, as you add more your site can get bogged down. This plugin will analyze your plugins and tell you which one is causing the problem.
Now it’s time to get out there and start blogging. If you get stuck anywhere along this process contact me and I’ll do my best to help you out.
It can take some time to gain some traction but don’t give up. Keep blogging and soon enough you’ll be surprised at the number of visitors you have. Perseverance is the name of the game. Keep creating quality content and you will be successful.
